Bietigheim-Bissingen (VWS – the wiper plant)

The site in Bietigheim-Bissingen boasts state-of-the-art production for wipers and wiper motors, among other things. It also houses laboratories where highly-specialized engineers subject new products to thorough testing and constantly monitor ongoing production. Current top product: AquaBlade®.

History at a glance

  • Production site since 1942, previously located in Stuttgart Feuerbach, founded as Spezial-Werkzeugfabrik Feuerbach (SWF); owner Gustav Rau; later ITT Industries.
  • The SWF brand was introduced at the Paris Motor Show in 1953 – the first windshield washer system was offered in 1955. The Bietigheim plant had to be extended due to high demand and new plants were added.
  • 1998: Valeo takes over the site.
  • 2001: AUDI purchases the first series of “Flat Blades”. Technology has undergone rapid development since then.
  • 2002: New building.
  • The focus at the site: Development and production of front, rear wiper/washing systems (arms, blades, linkages, wiper motors). Wide range of developments in the rubber, mechanical components (such as arms, blades and linkages) and motors (with and without electronics, including software development) fields; laboratories (function, reliability and climate electronics) in the field of quality and development. Since 2015 Front-end modules for Valeo Thermal Systems Business Group are also produced and developed at this site.

NEUSES SITE (WIPER PRODUCTION)

The location for the wiper production in Bietigheim-Bissingen also includes the APU Neuses with a production, among other things of rods for wipers. The company currently has 193 employees. The municipality Neuses in Franconia belongs to the administrative district / district of Kronach and is located in the Free State of Bavaria.

BREMEN SITE (THERMAL FRONT-END MODULE)

APU Bremen-Hemelingen is also part of the wiper production site in Bietigheim-Bissingen. Thermal front-end systems are assembled at the site in the immediate vicinity of the customer’s automotive production plant. Depending on the design, these systems consist of the front-end assembly support, air conditioning components, engine cooling and the crash management system. In addition, these complex assembly units are equipped with visible body parts such as headlamps, radiator guards and bumpers.

Wemding site (Switches & Sensors – production)

The Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems Business Group site in Bietigheim-Bissingen also includes a production facility in the Bavarian town of Wemding. Vision Systems (DVS), Radar Systems (DRS), Ultrasonic and Infrared Systems (DUS) and Top Column Modules (ITC) are produced here. Today, ultrasonic parking assistance sensors are integrated into virtually all new vehicles in Europe, and Valeo is the market leader in the field. Production development: Start of production in 1993. The hundred millionth unit was produced in 2008 and the two hundred millionth in 2012. The Wemding site currently produces 50 million sensors annually.

FRIEDRICHSDORF SITE (CDA)

The site in Friedrichsdorf near Frankfurt am Main is part of the Valeo Driver Assistance Systems Business Group (CDA) and it is where Valeo peiker Telematics are developed and produced.
The telematics modules are important components of the connected car, making them indispensable for automated transport concepts of the future.
They enable rapid and reliable exchange of data, such as through complex Internet connectivity, navigation, manufacturer-specific assistance services, and legally required emergency eCall service.

  • 1946: Founding of the “Beerwald & Co.” factory for the production and sales of piezoelectric and acoustic devices in Bad Homburg; later rebranded as peiker acustic GmbH & Co. KG and relocated to Friedrichsdorf.

Bad Rodach site (Climate technology)



The site in Bad Rodach is part of the Thermal Systems (THS) Business Group and is located in Franconia, close to the border with the state of Thuringia.
It is not only a production site, but also an important development center for Thermal Systems (Region Thermal Systems North Europe). It also features modern noise test benches, climate control test benches, test benches for performance tests of all kinds, 3D camera scans for parts measurement and design development for operating elements. The production plant also uses state-of-the-art pressing and injection systems, and is connected to a wind tunnel with additional laboratories and a testing facility located in Hockenheim.

Frankfurt site (Electrical systems)

Valeo PL Energy Conversion sells, develops, industrializes and produces technologies, products and building blocks for on-board charging devices. The Frankfurt site is responsible for the development of interface modules, support for German OEMs and global sales of chargers.
The products are complex, highly efficient power electronics used for the electrification of vehicles. The most common applications for the charging devices by PL Energy Conversion are plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. The production site is located in Veszprem, Hungary.

Ratingen site (Service – aftermarket)

Valeo has operated the Ratingen site since 2000; prior to that the headquarters were in Wülfrath (1988-2000).
Over 40 employees are currently responsible for the aftermarket business. Valeo Service sells a wide range of products and efficient services (catalogs, brochures, training and diagnostic equipment).
These are made available to contract dealerships, spare parts dealers and independent workshops in over 100 countries around the world. In addition, Valeo Service provides its customers with sophisticated, comprehensive business and technical support.
